The competition took place on Saturday, Feb. 20.

This is the first time in over 15 years that the school’s cheerleading team has competed. The girls placed out of 14 teams in the small Varsity division.

The team is coached by Kiara Robinson, a Peekskill City School District alumni who cheered for the high school from 2004 until her graduation in 2008.

“I start off every season by explaining to my squad how Peekskill cheerleading used to be years ago and how I wanted to bring that spirit back,” Robinson said. “This is my fourth year coaching and each past season we always seemed to fall short in reaching the goal, but this season we worked harder for it and they did it.

Robinson said she was proud of her team for sticking together and doing an amazing job.

"I am so happy that I was able to expose a group of young girls from my community to a different level of cheerleading and I’m excited to see how our program is going to transform over the next couple of years," she said.
