Peekskill Common Council Candidate Torres Eyes 'Positive Change'

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- The Peekskill Daily Voice will publish candidate profiles for those running in local elections on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Joe Torres is a Republican running for Peekskill Common Council.

Torres works in the Peekskill Office of Emergency Management and has been a member of the Peekskill Yacht Club since 2003.

Why are you running for office? I believe I can make a positive changes for Peekskill. I Also believe Peekskill can be one of the best cities in the Hudson valley. Changes need to be made to the fiscal spending for Peekskill to move in a positive direction and to keep our taxes low.

How long have you lived in Peekskill for? I've lived in Peekskill since 1973. My family moved up here when I was 11 years old.

What do you love about Peekskill? I love the waterfront and the great possibilities that could be made to make Peekskill a great city.

What makes it the best place to live in Westchester? Affordability and how close it is to other cities such as White Plains, Fishkill, NYC and Bear Mountain. Peekskill has many great parks and activities.

Do you have favorite restaurants or favorite places to shop in Peekskill? La Viletta has to be one of my favorite places to eat. The Peekskill Brewery, Quiet Man and also Rubens.

What does Peekskill mean to you? It's a great city a lot of great people live in this city. I got married, raised a family, built a home and opened my business here.

What do you love about Peekskill that makes you want to represent it in government? I believe we can make great changes to the city to make this a destination where people want to come and visit, live and shop here.
