This is a third follow-up with regards to a June 2 constituent meeting with Senator Terrence Murphy’s staff asking him to co-sponsor the Reproductive Health Act (S2796) and the Comprehensive Contraception Coverage Act (S3668). Senator Murphy sits on the committees for both of these bills.

On July 8, a constituent letter of response was received from the Senator’s office stating he did not support the RHA, but made no mention of the CCCA.

July 11, Email to John Winton, Director of Community Affairs & Special Projects, and copied Jamie Sprague, Director of Constituent Services, confirming receipt of the letter but that it met 50% of the expectations as it did not include the Senator’s concern and position with regards to the CCCA as originally agreed. No response.

July 13, Email asking if the Senator will state his main concern and position as originally agreed. No response.

July 19, I left a message with Michael Jefferson, Media Inquiries, for Mr. Winton, and sent an email inquiring after the email that was sent to the office from Alyssa Miller, Director of Public Affairs for Planned Parenthood Hudson-Peconic that contained information regarding emergency contraception in order so that the Senator may educate himself, as this, according to Mr. Winton, was what the Senator was interested in doing. I asked if the information from Planned Parenthood was passed on to the Senator and if he would respond to his constituents with what, if any, concerns he continued to have, and his position on the CCCA. No response.

July 28, Email to Mr. Winton asking if the Senator was unwilling to address this issue. No response.

August 11, Email to Mr. Winton stating how disappointing it was that the Senator, and his staff, had gone silent on this issue. No response.

As a constituent, what perception am I to have under such circumstances? What does it say about the Senator’s character that he has demonstrated such blatant disregard with regards to this issue?
