PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – Peekskill Mayor Frank Catalina was moved by recent shootings in Dallas to the point where he took special action to ensure his city would honor the victims as respectfully as possible, according to The Examiner.

Catalina ordered that all flags on city buildings and properties be lowered for one week of mourning or until the final officer was buried, according to The Examiner.

The order exceeds President Barack Obama’s order that the U.S. flag fly at half-staff from July 8-12.

Further, Catalina instructed the Peekskill Police Department to hang mourning bunting on the department headquarters and to ensure that a Peekskill police color guard have a physical presence at the memorial services in Texas, according to The Examiner.

On his Facebook page on Wednesday night , Catalina said he was moved to tears after receiving a message from the color guard.

“Just wanted to let you know that we have been welcomed by the people of Dallas and DART PD,” reads the message on the mayor’s page. “All expressed gratitude and thanks that a small PD from New York would send officers to Texas to support them.”
