Police first learned of the robbery around 10:30 p.m. after receiving a call from the store of a robbery in progress, said Det. Lt. George Camacho.
When officers arrived on scene they learned that a man, armed with a machete, had entered the store while two employees were inside. The suspect, Johnny White, 28, locked one of the employees in the bathroom and forced the other employee to empty the safe and register of money. He then ran out the rear door to the business, Camacho said.
During the course of this investigation by City of Poughkeepsie Police detectives, White was identified and his information was shared with the City of Beacon Police Department.
The next day around 6:50 p.m., Beacon police officers arrested White following a traffic stop and turned him over to the City of Poughkeepsie officers, Camacho added.
He was charged with felony robbery and is being held at the Dutchess County Jail on $150,000 cash or $300,000 bond.
