Wiley M. Jackson, 91, Former Resident Of Peekskill, Retired IBM Employee

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. - Wiley M. "Pete" Jackson of Pompano Beach, formerly a resident of Peekskill and Poughkeepsie, N.Y., died Dec. 5. He was 91.

Jackson was born Oct. 20, 1923, in Peekskill, N.Y., on Oct. 20, 1923, to Jennie (Portee) and John W. Jackson. He attended Peekskill public schools, graduating from Peekskill High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946 reaching the rank of radioman, 3rd class. After the war, he continued his radio operator experience and completed a Radio and Television course at the New York Technical Institute and was certified in 1947.

He worked for IBM in 1952 and relocated to Dutchess County in 1957. He retired from IBM in 1987 after 35 years. In 1999, he and his wife, moved to Lexington, Ky. to live with their daughter, Lois. He returned to New York in 2008. In November 2013, he moved to Pompano Beach.

Jackson is survived by his wife, Helen; four children, Linda Jackson, Lois Jackson, Lorraine Jackson-Ordia and Peter Jackson; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four god-children; son-in-law, Dr. Joe Ordia; daughter-in-law, Linda Manning-Jackson; a host of additional family; and friends.

Calling hours are Thursday, Dec. 11 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the E.O. Curry Funeral Home, Peekskill. There will be a viewing Friday, Dec. 12 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Beulah Baptist Church, 92 Catherine St., Poughkeepsie, where a Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m., followed by interment to the Hillside Cemetery, Cortlandt Manor.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Southern Poverty Law Center, 400 Washington Avenue, Montgomery, AL 36104.
