Howard 'Rodney' Gale, 90, Peekskill WWII Veteran

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – Howard "Rodney" Gale, a lifelong Peekskill and Cortlandt resident, died Jan. 21. He was 90.

Born June 29, 1922, Gale served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He worked as an installer for the New York Telephone Co. and AT&T for 37 years before retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Masonic Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 34 in Peekskill.

He served as a volunteer fire fighter at Cortlandt Hook and Ladder in Peekskill and was a member of the Yorktown Veterans of Foreign War.

Gale is survived by his wife, Claire T. Powers Gale; a son, Gregory H. (Gretchen) Gale; and a grandson. He was predeceased by a brother, Douglas Gale; and a sister, Gwen Begany.

Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at E.O. Curry Funeral Home in Peekskill. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Cortlandt Manor.
