Peekskill Woman, 81, Killed in Putnam Car Accident

PHILLIPSTOWN, N.Y. --An 81-year-old Peekskill woman was killed and three others injured Sunday in a car accident in Garrison.

Willie Mae Bolton, 81, of Peekskill was killed and her daughter Junita Bolton, 54, and another passenger were injured  when their car collided with another vehicle at approximately 2:15 p.m. on Route 9, about a quarter mile south of Travis Corners Road in the Town of Garrison.

The sheriff's department said an investigation showed that 61-year-old Claudio Crescenzo of Mohegan Lake was traveling northbound on Route 9 in a 2008 Chevrolet pickup truck and attempted to make a left turn from the driving lane. Bolton was driving a 2009 Toyota sedan northbound on Route 9, police said, and attempting to overtake Crescenzo's truck.

The two vehicles collided, police said, which caused Bolton's car to skid northbound into the southbound lane of traffic off the roadway into a stone wall. Bolton’s car overturned, trapping its three occupants, according to police.

Members of the Garrison Fire Department extricated the occupants from the car. All three sustained injuries and Junita Bolton was flown by a New York State Police helicopter to the Westchester Medical Center while Bolton of  Peekskill was rushed by to the Hudson Valley Hospital Center in Cortlandt, where she later died from her injuries. The other passenger, identified as Robert Taylor, was transported to the Westchester Medical Center.

Based on the investigation conducted by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team, Crescenzo was issued a summons citing him for changing lanes unsafely. He is due to appear in Philipstown Justice Court at a later date. Crescenzo refused medical attention at the crash site.

The Putnam County Sheriff's department, along with members of the Garrison Fire Department, Garrison and Philipstown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Care One Ambulance Service, TransCare paramedics and the state police responded to the scene.

The accident investigation is ongoing. Check back for more details as they become available.
