PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Peekskill is offering a place for people to come in from the cold.

Police Chief Eric Johansen announced the city will be opening a warming center at the Neighborhood Center at 4 Nelson Ave. The warming center will be open Thursday until 8:00 p.m., Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. and Saturday between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Peekskill residents who require overnight accommodations may seek assistance at the Jan Peek Shelter, Johansen said.

During this period of extreme cold, people are reminded to check on family members and friends, especially the elderly; and to keep their pets indoors, Johansen said.
