Nypd Officer, Former Section 1 Basketball Star, Killed In Bronx Crash

PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- A rookie police officer killed in a single-vehicle crash involving  an NYPD van in the Bronx was a basketball star at Section 1's Arlington High School, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal, and the son of a longtime Carmel police officer, according to CBS New York.

Michael Williams, 25, was killed and eight other officers were injured in the 5 a.m. accident in which the van hit a barrier on Bruckner Boulevard in Hunts Point, ejecting Williams from the van, according to multiple reports.

Williams, who was also a part-time deputy sheriff in Dutchess, had been an NYPD officer for around eight months, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal.

Williams' father, also named Michael, was a police officer in Carmel, according to Newsday.

Williams, a  2007 Arlington High School graduate, was an all-star in basketball who went on to play at Keene State University, according to the Journal report.
