EPA Strikes Down Tappan Zee Bridge Loan

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- The federal government has withdrawn more than $481 million of a $511 million loan for the new Tappan Zee Bridge, according to the Democrat and Chronicle.

The loan was approved by three separate boards this year but, after further analysis, the EPA determined seven of the 12 projects were not eligible for funding, the Democrat and Chronicle said. 

“I applaud the EPA for rendering a common-sense interpretation of the law,” Assemblyman Tom Abinanti (D-Greenburgh/Mt. Pleasant) said in a statement. “The winners here are the environment and municipalities that need these funds to keep their water clean.”
