Peekskill Teens Honored For Helping Out At Food Pantry

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Twenty Peekskill students were recently honored for helping to feed the hungry in Peekskill.

The teens were honored at Volunteer New York!'s 37th annual Volunteer Spirit Awards on March 31 at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown.

Every Saturday morning, the 20 teens show up to Fred's Pantry Youth Group and help customers and load groceries into cars.

Middle school and high school students frequently arrive at Fred’s Pantry when they need service hours for confirmation or for their bar and bat mitzvahs. 

Fred’s Pantry is a program of CHOP (Caring for the Homeless of Peekskill), open every Saturday morning and is located at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Peekskill. On average, it serves 115 households per week in the winter and 95 households per week in the summer.
