Several doctors attended to Sung K. Paik of Union City, who was pronounced dead at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center a little over a half hour after he was struck near the third tee.
“It appears to be a tragic case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Capt. Michael LaViola told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
Tree workers hired by a Rio Vista Drive homeowner were cutting down the dead tree with chainsaws at the same time the victim went searching for a lost ball near the property line, LaViola said.
“They yelled, but apparently he didn’t hear or it was too late,” the captain said.
No charges would be brought, he said.
Police do intend to check tomorrow whether the homeowner had a permit to hire help to do the work on a Sunday.
