PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Cross Cultural Connection is hosting its 2014 fund-raising event in June in Peekskill.
CCC officials are inviting residents to "Honoring The Mentors" on Sunday, June 8, at the Elks Lodge, 1038 Brown St. in Peekskill. The guests of honor are Vince Corozine and Ryan Odell. The CCC is a non-profit organization that promotes jazz culture, jazz education, performances and programming in schools, colleges and communities, according to a press release.
Vince Corozine is the Life Time Mentor. Corozine "has devoted his life and a 50 year career to teaching, mentoring, composing, arranging and performing," according to the release.
"He has graciously touched the lives of countless individuals and groups. Vince is highly valued and has been a contributor to the Cross Cultural Connection vision and the Pro-Am Ensemble since our inception. We are grateful that he has embraced us," representatives said in the release.
Ryan Odell is the Mentor of The Year. Odell is music director at Putnam Valley High School "who during his 18 year tenure leads by example, teaches, inspires and mentors students on a path of excellence, success and exceptional service in life," representatives said.
"He has a unique talent for bringing young people to realize their potential as students, musicians and citizens," representatives said in the release.
"We are raising funds to continue providing workshops, masters classes, musical theater programming, mentoring to students and performances to the wider community," representatives said in the release. "The C.C.C. mentoring component and our performance driven workshop/master class program has allowed us to create the Pro Am Ensemble, the signature student-professional band.
Over the years, this ensemble has performed at numerous venues including the Paramount Theater, Peekskill Celebration, Peekskill Community Street Concerts, Embark Studio, Bean Runner Jazz Cafe, Peekskill; John Burkes Gillespie Auditorium, N.Y.C.; White Plains Jazz Festival, and has appeared on the Westchester Living Arts in Westchester cable TV program."
