CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. - Hudson Valley Hospital Center received the Press Ganey "Success Story Award" during Press Ganey's annual Washington D.C. conference. According to a press release from the hospital, the hospital received the award for maintaining employee satisfaction above the 92nd percentile for six years.
“This is a tremendous honor, and a testament not only to the initiative of management but to the teamwork of the entire hospital staff,’’ said Hudson Valley Hospital Center President John Federspiel. “The fact that our employees feel satisfaction in their work is not only important to the well being of this hospital, but to the well being of our patients.’’
Press Ganey partners with health care organizations throughout the country to improve performance, the company partners with 10,000 organizations nationwide and half of U.S. hospitals.
Hudson Valley Hospital Center is one of 13 organizations to receive this honor in 2012, and one of only nine organizations to receive the award for satisfaction performance.
In its presentation to the convention, Hudson Valley Hospital Center Vice Presidents Debbie Neuendorf and Jeane Costella said the hospital works to keep employees engaged. As a result, they said, the turnover rate of the hospital’s nursing staff had dropped from 22 percent in 2000 to 6.6 percent in 2012. Overall employee turnover rate dropped from 26 percent to 8.6 percent.
This is Hudson Valley Hospital Center’s second “Success Story Award.” The first was awarded in 2006 for a cultural sea change at the institution that drove employee satisfaction levels from the 28th percentile to the 97th percentile within six years. Since then, the hospital has maintained its high rating, remaining above the 92nd percentile in employee satisfaction each year, which was the basis of this year’s award.
