PEEKSKILL, N.Y. City voters elected two residents to serve on the Peekskill City School District Board of Education Tuesday.
Colin Smith was elected to the board with 360 votes, according to unofficial results provided by the district Turday evening.
The four candidates ran for two openings on the seven member board. The only incumbent is Bobe since board Vice President Fran Feuerman did not seek another term.
Colin Smith, 38, is a graduate of the Peekskill City Schools and an attorney. He also served as an assistant district attorney in the Bronx County District Attorney's Office. He attended Cedarville University and Pace University School of Law. Smith said he was still letting the election results sink in.
"This is my first ever election for anything, so it's a bit surreal," said Smith after the results were announced. "I have to believe that this is the citizens of Peekskill wanted so I'm honored and I'm humbled by it, that they believed that I could be a good board member and represent the interests of them and their children."
Bobe, 47, is finishing the third year of her first term on the board. She said she was surprised, not dissapointed about the election results.
I'm very hapy with the outcome of the budget, that the budget passed," Bobe said. "Colin is very good and I liked Darryl a lot, [although] I only got to meet him once. Now it's just a matter of getting them up to speed with what the district has coming down the pipe and is putting into place."
