PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Students at Woodside Elementary School worked with artists recently on a large-scale mural project.
Artists Andrew Barthelmes, Geoff Feder, Lance Johnson and Donna Mikkelsen and the children collaborated as part of Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art's In-School Artist Residency Program.
The program brings artists into the school to work with students, aiming to enhance and enrich Woodside's standard curriculum.
The mural is based on the diverse community of Peekskill. Working on it gave the students hands-on experience in painting, collaging, drawing and writing.
The mural will be open for public viewing during Peekskill's Open Studios Saturday, June 4 from noon until 6 p.m. at 1 N. Division St., Peekskill.
