The session will begin at 7 p.m. at The Elks Club at 1038 Brown Street in Peekskill. Representatives said all are welcome, "especially parents who are interested in finding out more about this unique educational model."

The founders of the school are set to file an application with the New York State Education Department Board of Regents. The school is proposing an August 2015 opening with kindergarten and first grade adding a grade each year until there are eight grades.

"Charter schools are independent public schools, therefore, tuition-free, that operate under a contract or 'charter,'" representatives said. "Recognizing that one-size does not fit all when it comes to education, charter schools offer quality and choice within the public education system. Charter schools trade operational freedom and flexibility for a greater degree of accountability. They are run by an independent Board of Trustees and are held accountable to the students and parents they serve based on how well they meet the academic goals established in their charter and, how they meet fiscal and operational responsibilities."
