PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Lisa Aspinall-Kellawon, not Darryl Footmon, will join Colin Smith as new Peekskill Board of Education trustees in July.
District officials named Footmon and Smith as winners in a four way-race for two seats on the board, however district clerk Debra McLeod said a mistake was made when the numbers were called in to the district office from the polling location across the street at the high school gymnasium.
"The person in the office misunderstood what I said, so one of the [district] numbers was way off," McLeod said Wednesday morning.
The error was only found Wednesday morning when McCleod was recording the votes, she said. The clerk said the election inspectors and volunteers did their jobs correctly.
The official budget vote totals are 428 yes and 270 no for a total of 698. The final corrected board election results are:
Colin Smith: 362
Lisa Aspinall-Kellawon: 347
Darryl Footman: 344
Marcela Bobe: 280
Aspinall-Kellawon, an educator who has been a substitute teacher in district for several years, was not present when the results were innitially announced Tuesday evening and was not immediately available for contact.
