Corey Hepburn's whereabouts are unknown and Peekskill Police are working with Westchester County's intelligence center to locate him.
He was convicted in 2013 of having sexual contact with a 13-year-old teenager and using force, according to the New York State sex offender registry. He was charged with second-degree sexual abuse, a misdemeanor.
Peekskill police discovered Hepburn had moved on Wednesday, Feb. 19, while conducting a routine follow-up, Johansen told the Daily Voice.
“We, as a matter of policy, routinely check on sex offenders that are registered and residing in Peekskill,” he said. “As part of our routine follow up with these offenders we discovered Hepburn was no longer residing at the address at 174 Benefield Boulevard.”
Peekskill police have an open case for his arrest. Johansen said that he would likely also be charged by the local police in any community that he may be living in now.
A sex offender has 10 days to notify the state sex offender registry, as well as the police department for the community they move into, of an address change.
Pound Ridge residents may be particularly sensitive to this issue after a Level 3 sex offender, Edward Campbell, moved into town without notifying police and telling the state that he moved somewhere else.
While Pound Ridge Police Chief David Ryan said he doesn’t believe Hepburn is in Pound Ridge, he sad in an email notifying residents of Hepburn's move that “history has taught us that we simply never know."
Campbell was accused of talking with teenage girls on Facebook, which violates his probation, and using electronic devices and other items prohibited under the conditions of his release and probation.
In 2012, he was convicted of having sex with a 13-year-old girl, a second-degree felony. He was sentenced to 10 years of probation.
