The arrest came about when officers responded to a report of a shoplifter in custody at Sears in the Jefferson Valley Mall, 600 Lee Blvd., on Saturday, police said.
The suspect, a male whose name is being withheld due to possible youthful offender status, allegedly removed tags and packaging from items totaling $93.99, concealed the items on his person and exited the store with them, police said.
The teen was taken into custody and transported to the Yorktown Police Department; he has been charged with petty larceny, a class A misdemeanor, police said.
After processing, the defendant was issued an appearance ticket and released on his own recognizance to a parent, police report.
He is due to appear in Yorktown Justice court to answer the charge on Tuesday, Oct. 11, police said.
