High-Speed Chase Ends In Crash, Arrest In Area

A 27-year-old man is behind bars after taking police on a high-speed chase and attempting to flee on foot after crashing into another vehicle in Red Hook.

Officers from the Rhinebeck Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop of Hyde Park resident Christopher Marchant for a traffic violation on Saturday, Nov. 10. When officers attempted to stop him, Marchant allegedly fled from police at a high rate of speed into Red Hook, where he proceeded to crash into another vehicle on Firehouse Lane.

Following the crash, police said that Marchant got out and fled on foot before being quickly apprehended.

Marchant was arrested and charged with resisting arrest, unlawful fleeing of a police vehicle, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and cited for several vehicle and traffic violations. Police noted that he also faces multiple charges in the Town of Rhinebeck and the Village of Red Hook.

Following his arraignment in the Town of Rhinebeck Court, Marchant was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $5,00 cash bail. Marchant is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, Nov. 14 to respond to the charges.
