Cortlandt, Peekskill Men Arrested On Felony Drug Charges

CORTLANDT, N.Y. -- Two area men were arrested on felony drug charges by Westchester County Police after a traffic stop early Saturday in Cortlandt, police said.

Hiram Mendez, 35, of Peekskill, was arrested May 4 and charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony, and two counts of second-degree criminal use of drug paraphernalia.

Hiram Mendez, 35, of Peekskill, was arrested on May 4 and charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony, and two counts of second-degree criminal use of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor, according to the Westchester Department of Public Safety.

Also arrested was James Marks, 28, of Cortlandt Manor, who was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony

Their vehicle was pulled over at 12:09 a.m. Saturday when officers saw the vehicle cross the double yellow near the Citgo gas station on Oregon Road, police said. 

Officers saw Mendez, who was driving and wearing shorts, place a large object in one of his socks and found 10 small plastic bags containing nearly 12 grams of cocaine in his possession, police said. Mendez was also found in possession of a small scale and empty plastic bags similar to the ones that contained the cocaine, police said.

The passenger, Marks, was found to be in possession of almost two grams of cocaine and was also taken into custody, according to police.
