An investigation into a burglary spree in Westchester led to the arrests of three men who will all spend time behind bars after pleading guilty to their various roles in robbing several residential apartment buildings in Yonkers.

Yonkers residents Darnell Echols, 28, and Rajad Daily, 29, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to eight counts of second-degree burglaries while jury selection for their trial was underway in Westchester County Court. A third suspect, Jonathan Terry, 27 who acted as a getaway driver, pleaded guilty to attempted burglary in August.

On Dec. 30 last year, the three men carried out an early morning burglary spree in eight residential buildings across Yonkers. They targeted the buildings’ laundry rooms and stole cash out of laundry room cash-to-card machines in four out of the eight locations. The series of burglaries started just after midnight and ended with their arrests that same morning.

The burglarized locations included:

  • 12:10 a.m. at 1234 Midland Ave.;
  • 1:02 a.m. at 188 Warburton Ave.;
  • 2:32 a.m. at 242 Bronxville Road;
  • 2:48 a.m. at 25 Parkview Ave.;
  • 3:08 a.m. at 1304 Midland Ave.;
  • 3:55 a.m. at 1225 Midland Ave.;
  • 4:07 a.m. at 900 Palmer Road;
  • 4:40 a.m. 107 at Van Cortlandt Park Ave.

The three men were pulled over at approximately 5 a.m. on the morning of their spree, near Courter and Leroy avenues. All three were in the car, with Terry behind the wheel. During the subsequent investigation into the three men, they found a stash of burglars’ tools inside the Nissan including power tools, crowbars, gloves, duct tape and a sledgehammer. All three were arrested at the scene.

According to Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr., under the terms of their pleas, Daily will be sentenced as a persistent violent felony offender, and will face between 16 years and life in prison. Echols will be sentenced as a second violent felony offender to seven years in prison. Terry is facing two to four years in prison for serving as the driver and lookout as the other two executed the burglaries.

Scarpino said that the case “involved  an extensive investigation by the Yonkers Police Department and arrests of the three defendants were made during the course of a special detail organized by YPD on the morning of Dec. 30 (last year).”
