The bad news is that it's because there is no more gas.
That was the word from Peekskill Police spokesperson Lt. Eric Johansen Friday afternoon.
Long lines had been forming at city gas stations Wednesday and Thursday as area residents looked for fuel for their vehicles and power generators to power homes still without electricity.
The lines had not all run as smoothly as they could have, Johansen said.
"We had to provide police presence at city gas stations yesterday and today," Johansen said. "We had line cutters and people who didn't want to behave themselves."
No arrests were made, Johansen added.
There are still about 500 homes in the city still without power, but Johansen said some of those residents will have to hire electricians to rewire their homes before power can be restored.
