PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- The Marshall Tucker Band, one of the most venerable acts in rock 'n' roll, will roll into Peekskill on Friday.

The iconic Southern rock band will perform at 8 p.m. Friday at the Paramount Theater Hudson Valley, 1008 Brown St.

Lead singer Doug Gray said he enjoys performing at the Paramount.

"It's an intimate venue. I feel like I know everybody in the whole place. You can feel that energy and it makes the band better," he said.

The 66-year-old Gray, who has performed since the 60s, said he still gets a rush performing in front of an audience.

"It's like your wife having your child, or getting a new Lamborghini," he said.

Gray said audience members know they are going to get their money's worth from The Marshall Tucker Band.

"We haven't had a bad review in forever. Our performances are very important for us, no matter what the show is," he said.

And while Gray isn't naming any names, he said they hope to have some surprises at the Paramount.

Having toured for decades, Gray said it's their family at home that keeps them grounded.

"When we come back home to South Carolina, we touch base with reality.

"Our families and the people we grew up with are here. People treat us with respect and understanding," he said.

One of the highlights for the band is when they see people they knew as kids grow up and bring their kids to the show.

"It doesn't get any cooler than that. We're just an American band," Gray said.

The Marshall Tucker Band's most famous songs include "Can't You See" and "Heard It in a Love Song." Gray said it's a thrill to let the crowd be part of the show when they perform their hits.

"We learned a trick. They know the song, so they should be the ones singing it," Gray said.

"That's their song. To hear the whole crowd sing it, well, you can't find anyone in the world that would hate that. I love it," he said.
