Help Peekskill's C.H.O.P. Win Some New Wheels

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – Caring for the Homeless of Peekskill (C.H.O.P.) is asking for help from the community in order to win a new set of wheels from Toyota.

The organization has been selected as one of 500 nonprofit finalists in Toyota’s 100 Cars for Good program, in which the company is giving away 100 cars over the course of 100 days.  C.H.O.P. was selected as a finalist from more than 4,000 applications nationwide.

Since May 14, the 100 Cars for Good program has been profiling five of the finalists on its website .  Facebook users who subscribe will be able to vote for the charity of their choice.  The nonprofit with the most votes at the end of each day will win one of six Toyota models, with the runners-up each receiving a $1,000 cash grant.

Caring for the Homeless of Peekskill will be featured on Friday, June 15 from 10 a.m. to midnight and C.H.O.P.'S Executive Director Donna Besteiro is asking the people of Peekskill to help them win the day.

“If we are awarded a vehicle, the impact that our work is having on improving the quality of life for all citizens in these communities will be greatly enhanced," Besteiro said. "A vehicle will enable us to connect our clients with the services they need to become independent and solid contributors to society.  It will also allow us to pick up donations we cannot obtain today without a vehicle."

Established in 1988, C.H.O.P. has helped thousands through its programs such as the Jan Peek House Shelter for the Homeless, the Sunny Donut Free Breakfast Program and Fred’s Pantry at St. Peter's Episcopal Church.
