PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Edward Vincent, president of the Garden Club of Peekskill, announced the Unsolicited Civic Beautification Awards for 2014 at the March meeting.

These awards are presented annually to places of business, large and small, and homeowner associations whose landscaping enhances their locations and also contributes to the overall beauty and appeal of their communities in Buchanan, Cortlandt Manor, Montrose, Peekskill, and Verplanck. 

The recipients of these awards are: 

  • Riverbend Condo Association, South Street, Peekskill – Outstanding landscaping In the form of stone walls, evergreen shrubs, water gardens and colorful, seasonal plantings throughout the complex. A beautiful property for the homeowners and a gem for the entire city.
  • Buchanan Home Center, 319 Albany Post Road, Buchanan – Beautiful display of colorful annuals including marigolds, petunias and salvia in parking islands which enhanced the landscaping of the property and created a cheerful sight for the community.
  • Birdsall House, 970 Main St., Peekskill – Landscaped side courtyard for outdoor dining located behind attractive iron fencing. Plantings included evergreen shrubs, rows of knockout roses, climbing vines, potted annuals and heirloom vegetables and herbs all highlighted with twinkling lights. It is a great asset to their business and the entire downtown business area.
