Mount Vernon resident Sidney Lane, 37, was found guilty of two counts of attempted robbery, violent felonies, for an incident in Yonkers last July, when he attacked a woman and her 23-year-old son in their home.
On Wednesday, Lane was sentenced to a term of between 20-years to life in prison, Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino Jr.’s office announced.
On July 19 last year, Lane entered an Underhill Street home at around lunchtime, Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr., said. While armed with a gun, Lane demanded money from the two residents and “brutally pistol-whipped the victims on the face and head, causing injury.”
The two fought back and the son bit Lane on the face. Lane then fled the house and drove away.
The incident was investigated by police in Yonkers, executing search warrants at Lanes home and workplace, and checking surveillance videos. Scarpino said that forensic scientists at the Westchester County Department of Laboratories and Research developed DNA results which showed Lane’s blood in the victims’ home. Lane was arrested the following day while he was working in Tuckahoe and he's been detained since.
