There's Plenty To Do This Weekend In Peekskill

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. - It may be cold and snowy outside but there are plenty of things to do inside this weekend throughout the city.

Friday

12 Grapes will be hosting popular area rock band The Track at 9:30 p.m. playing a set of all original songs. Admission is a $10 entertainment fee, or $5 with dinner entree.

Joe Duraes will be performing blues and pop covers at The Peekskill Coffee House starting at 8 p.m. Admission is free.

The BeanRunner Cafe will host "The Two Guitars" with Gus Wieland and Brian Conigliaro starting at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $7.

The Birdsall House will host acoustic guitarist Matt Turk starting at 10 p.m. There is no cover.

The Paramount will be presenting the acclaimed French film "Le Havre" on Friday, Jan. 20 and Saturday, Jan. 21 at 7:30 p.m. Directed by Aki Kaurismaki, the film is in French with English subtitles. The film is 1 hour and 33 minutes long and is not rated. Admission is $7 for members and $9 for the general public.

Saturday

Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art's exhibit "CIRCA 1986" shows 65 artworks by 47 international artists who emerged with significant artworks in the extremely prosperous and exciting period between 1981 and 1991. HVCC is open Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m. Admission is $2-5.

The Peekskill Elks Lodge on Brown Street will host their biweekly Indoor Farmers' Market starting at 8 a.m. Admission is free.

Orange Splot Art Spot on Park Street will be hosting a Family Art Lab and Arts Workshop starting at 11 a.m. Admission is $13.

12 Grapes will present a set of funky R&B with the band Pocket Change starting at 9;30 p.m. Admission is a $10 entertainment fee or $5 with a dinner entree.

The Peekskill Coffee House will host an open mic night hosted by Andy Rice starting at 8 p.m. Admission is free.

The BearRunner cafe will present Fred Scribner, a.k.a. Midnight Slim, a former member of The Levon Helm band and founding member of Little Sammy Davis and Midnight Slim, the house band for Imus in the Morning Show. The show starts at 7:30 and admission is $10.

The Division Street Grill will have performances by Bucky Pizzarelli and Jerry Bruno. The show is free for diners. The first show will be held at 7:15 p.m. and the second will be at 9 p.m.

Sunday

The Paramount will present The Royal Opera presents the story of Cinderella as told in Massenet’s opera "Cendrillon" at 1 p.m. The opera is sung in French with English subtitles and is two hours and 50 minutes long including one intermission. Admission is $16 for members and $20 for the general public.

The BeanRunner Cafe will be hosting a book signing of Intimate Thoughtswith author and actor Darrin DeWitt Henson, who has starred in the hit films "Stomp the Yard," "Tekken" and "Blood Done Signed My Name," and appeared on five seasons of the original TV series "Soul Food." The event will run from 4-6 p.m.

Later that evening, The BeanRunner Cafe will also be hosting a night with singer/songwriters Dean Friedman, New Middle Class, Dan Pelletier, Sarah Knapp and Steve Alper. The concert will benefit the Reform Temple of Putnam Valley and will feature a Silent Auction. The show starts at 7 p.m. and admission is $ 15

12 Grapes will host a free singer/songwriter showcase with Norma Jean Martine and Melissa Frabotta starting at 5:30 p.m.
