Muriel Cottrell, 88, Peekskill Radio Operator

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – Muriel Cottrell, a longtime Peekskill and Cortlandt Manor resident, died April 14. She was 88.

Cottrell was born Aug. 25, 1923, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Frank and Elizabeth Gorman Lough. On Oct. 16, 1944, she married Irving E. Cottrell at Church of the Assumption in Peekskill. He predeceased her in 1997. 

She was associated with her husband for many years in the operations and management of local radio stations WHUD and WLNA. Cottrell was a communicant at St. Columbanus Church in Cortlandt Manor, where for many years she served as an extraordinary minister. She was also active in various organizations, including Birthright and Nazareth Home, where she served on the board of directors. 

Cottrell is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Cronk; six sons, William (Karen), Daniel, Thomas (Nancy), Donald (Debbie), James and John (Sylvie); a brother, Francis V. (Dorothy) Lough; 21 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Irving; a sister, Dorothy Baker; and a granddaughter, Colleen Cronk. 

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at Dorsey-Carlone Funeral Home in Peekskill. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday at St. Columbanus Church in Cortlandt Manor, followed by burial at Assumption Cemetery.
