Snow accumulation totals, originally predicted to be between 3 to 6 inches, have been increased to 6 to 10 inches, according to the National Weather Service.
Snow should start falling in parts of the region by noon Tuesday and become heavier in the evening and continue overnight before ending by early Wednesday morning.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning from noon on Tuesday until 6 a.m. on Wednesday for Westchester County and the Hudson Valley.
Several school districts in Westchester have announced early dismissals: Ardsley Middle School (11:32 a.m.), Ardsley High School (11:04 a.m.), Bedford Central Middle/High School (10:20 a.m.), Chappaqua High School 11:35 a.m., Middle School 11:25 a.m., Eastchester Middle School and High School (10:50 a.m.), Elmsford School District (using early release schedule), Hastings High School and Farragut Middle School (11:45 a.m.), Irvington (11 a.m.), Katonah-Lewisboro (four-hour early dismissal), Lakeland High School (10:15 a.m.) and Middle School (12:15 p.m.), Mount Vernon (11:30 a.m.), North Salem Middle School and High School (10:30 a.m.), Pleasantville (11:30 a.m.), Port Chester (11:30 a.m.), Tuckahoe (11 a.m.), Valhalla (11 a.m.), White Plains (11 a.m.) and Yonkers (11 a.m.).
Tuesday’s high is expected to be only between 20 and 22 degrees. Winds will be between 10 to 20 miles per hour with gusts up to 30 miles per hour, creating wind chills as low as 15 below zero late Tuesday night, which could cause frostbite. Falling, blowing and drifting snow will create hazardous driving and walking conditions.
Wednesday is expected to be mostly sunny and frigid, with highs between 16 and 18.
