I can understand trying to lessen the punishment on the child because first time offense and age, but suing for emotional distress and counseling that is part of parenthood. Help your child not be his or her friend. Why is she not upset that A.S.. had it in the first place. It is very important that schools maintain strict rules, because society is becoming less and less strict, and our kids need to know and learn responsibility. It is illegal. If they allow this lawsuit, it will send a message to our kids and the school will be helpless and loose their ability to follow rules.

Zero tolerance. It is illegal whether you are smoking it or not. The child and mother should revisit what is actually going on in their lives. We accept this we might as well let them smoke! Plus, they are suing the school, which means our kids will suffer with less programs. Discipline is needed. Say no to drugs! That statement doesn't say say no to smoking, injecting, what have you! Why did she have it. Period! End of story. I am mom too and I would be so concerned on how my kid got it in the first place. Now we will all pay. Parents try their best, but times kids find trouble, we need to react to them not worry about our child's rights. They weren't. Very upsetting. Sign of the times. View Comment
Open communication is always helpful. We are grateful for them to open these fields to our kids. Both parties need to be flexible. I hope this does not become political. Lets put our kids first. We all have to abide by rules and let yes show our kids how its done. View Comment
I think school should be longer or have less days off. Ver disruptive. Homework is great but more education is an investment in their future. They are out more than they are at school. View Comment
