I live on a dead end in Harmon that abuts Van Cortlandt Manor's property. At least 2x a month there's a big coyote that walks through the woods early in the morning, about 6 feet from our property. Never bothers us - very solitary - but scary all the same.

@Jack54 - I'm not hung up on the sexual antics of whomever's in the White House. Clinton was not the first nor will he be the last to use his power to gain sexual favors. Nixon's resignation was due to a very real infraction of the laws of this country. Clinton's impeachment was due to his sophomoric sexual appetite. View Comment
@Jack54, I believe he lied to protect his family. While I agree his judgment was incredibly poor, his politics were superb.
@MarioVB, 'he was a rapist'? Even Lewinsky's friends said she headed to the White House with knee pads on, knowing full well how she was going to get ahead. "took advantage"? I think not. Let's not stay hung up on the sexual misconduct...way too parochial. It's always been about politics and his were smart, well executed and forward thinking.

PCH7, check your history my friend. A national disgrace? You couldn't be more wrong. He was a one of the most progressive, forward thinking, socially conscious president the US ever elected. Who cares that he had sex in the oval office .... ooohhh! No president ever did that before, I'm sure. View Comment
Au contraire. I hope it's as good as 44. Great space, ample parking and most importantly a local restaurant. I look forward to dining with the Jannetta's. View Comment
sayitsnotso, I have to laugh when I read your comments - 'pie in the sky solar and wind energy'; 'beloved socialistic Europe'. Thanks for the chuckle. View Comment
sayitsnotso, I sure wish I knew what you do for a living. You sound so angry at union workers for trying to make a living. 'give little back'? 'unions will bring our country to its knees'? Let's not be so melodramatic. Union members and ALL it's citizens built our country to what it is today. We all just want to make a living. Being a hater doesn't look good on you. View Comment
Civic Minded, how do you know this project is not backed by the community? As for it being one woman's dream-that's what it usually takes to make something happen; one person's passion! Having a 9/11 memorial in our community could generate income for local businesses when tourists and families come to view the memorial. It's also the right thing to do! For such a significant historical event to have occurred so close to us it's a travesty not to support Ms. Mainiero's efforts to build the memorial. I hope the trustees don't get mired in one-upmanship for such a small amount of money to get it built. "They're contributing more"; "they're contributing less". Come on folks - get it done! Why is there always negative reaction to new ideas? Croton has a terrible reputation for keeping new business out of town. Competition is healthy for a democracy and makes merchants work harder to garner patrons. Supporting local farmers is a perfect way to help the community as is shopping in local stores. Both will thrive if their products are good.
Parking has always been an issue, even without the Farmers Market. Blockbuster and 44 were the prior tenants but no one screamed about the parking then. Ride a bike; walk the kids down; patiently wait for a spot (gasp!); it's not as dire as described. Valets, really?? Anyone old enough to drive a car should be able to navigate a parking lot. I like the idea of more parking across the street from the shopping center. More parking; more patrons; more money; better for everyone! View Comment
There's nothing wrong with competition. It makes everyone up their game! As far as parking ... walk! The CVS parking lot is so scary I do my best to walk down there as much as practicable. View Comment
"Let the investigation begin"?? What does that mean? From what I've read a friend put the embers from the fireplace in a paper bag and placed it outside. He wanted to assure the little ones that Santa would be safe coming down the chimney. Let the babies rest in peace, let the family heal, and let's leave them alone. No more reporters or stories on this horrific story. View Comment
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the Croton Yacht Club for 'members only'? Don't the members pay dues to the club? If one wants to host a party there doesn't a member have to 'sponsor' your event? How is it that the village has to pay for the upkeep of a seemingly private club?
On another note, I love Trustee Schmidt's suggestion for a restaurant on the site. The more revenue generated the better. View Comment
