An alert has been issued by the New York State Department of Transportation to Westchester County motorists cautioning that beginning on Monday, Sept. 25, contracting crews would kick off construction on the bridge carrying East 3rd Street over the Hutchinson River.

The project is expected to extend through August next year.

Construction at the project site will include the complete removal and replacement of the aging bridge structure and all reconstruction of the parkway ramps to tie into the new parkway elevations.

The scope of the project may also lead to limited lane closures on weekends on the Hutchinson River Parkway.

During construction, traffic will be diverted to a temporary bridge that will be placed adjacent to the old structure. Officials said that detour signage will be posted and there will be flaggers in the area to help direct motorists.
