Area Code Baseball is an elite sports event taking place in Long Beach, Calif. The 2015 tournament began on Aug. 4 and wraps up on Tuesday at historic Blair Field. For more New York-regiona details, including this year's roster, go here.
The Area Code tournament pits eight teams from eight regions nationwide against one another. Tryouts began in June and ran through July. Each team has an affiliation with a Major League Baseball team. This year's team sponsors are the New York Yankees, Milwaukee Brewers, Texas Rangers, Washington Nationals, Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati Reds, Kansas City Royals and Oakland Athletics.
It's also a unique opportunity for the participating high school players because the top players from across the country will be on the same field for a week. They'll be evaluated by professional baseball scouts from all 30 Major League teams and the Major League Scouting Bureau. Plus, there will be college coaches from many of the top college baseball programs in the nation.
Kirby, who will be a senior at Rye High School next season, has committed to pitch for Elon University in North Carolina when he enrolls in 2016.
