WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Lanay Rodney scored 16 of her 23 points in the first half Wednesday to lead the Peekskill girls basketball team to a 63-35 victory over top-seeded Beacon in the Section 1 Class A semifinals at the County Center.
The fourth-seeded Red Devils ran their overall record to 17-4 and will play No. 2 Albertus Magnus in the Class A championship game Saturday, March 1 at 7 p.m. in the Westchester County Center.
Rodney put on a long-range shooting show in the first quarter, scoring 13 of Peekskill's 23 points as the Devils took a 23-8 lead. The sophomore nailed four 3-pointers in the first half and the Devils led 30-17 at the break..
Starting guard Tiarra Dillard added eight points for Peekskill but spent most of the second and third quarters on the bench with three personal fouls in the first half. Nyrie Holliman had 11 points and Kiarra Dillard added five points off the bench.
Shaina Iton and Latisha Clark formed a strong inside defensive tandem blocking a number of Beacon shots and grabbing 18 rebounds between them. Clark added eight points.
