Peekskill Looks Back On Week In Sports

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Senior "Athletes of the Year," were announced, along with the end of both softball and tennis seasons in the Peekskill City School District, according to a review of the May 16 week in sports by the Athletic Department.

Chelsea Ogindo and Devin Guardino who were chosen as the "Senior Athletes of the Year" will be recognized at a Rotary Luncheon June 9 at Cortlandt Colonial.

The Spring Sports Awards dinner will be held in the Peekskill High School cafeteria Wednesday, June 1 at 7 p.m.

Week of May 16:

The varsity softball team completed their season by splitting a double header with Yonkers High School. They needed just one more win to qualify for the playoffs.

Softball coach Anthony DiCuio was voted "Coach of the Year" by his peers.

The varsity boys tennis team completed its season wiht a record of 7-7, its best finish in the past decade.

The junior varsity softball team dropped two games to White Plains and Ardsley.

Varsity lacrosse completed their season with a 12-1 win over Yonkers High School.

The junior varsity baseball team dropped two games to Westlake and Port Chester.

Modified Softball lost games to North Salem, Pawling, Garrison, and Alexander Hamilton.

Modified Lacrosse lost to North Salem.

In the Westchester County Championship Meet, Ricky Patterson placed first in the high jump clearing a height of 6 feet, two inches.

Rhonde Robinson placed 4th with a jump of 5 feet, nine inches.

Chelsea Ogindo placed 2nd in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 66.11 seconds.
