BARDONIA, N.Y. - There was a playoff atmosphere in the Albertus Magnus gymnasium Friday night, as the No. 5 Peekskill High girls basketball team traveled to face the No. 4 Falcons in a Section 1 Class A quarterfinal.
The house was packed for these two rivals, and Peekskill gave the host all it could handle, but in the end it was Albertus that advanced to the semifinals at the County Center after surging to a 61-56 victory.
Kate Mager led Magnus with 20 points, including five three-pointers. Lanay Rodney had 15 points for the Lady Devils.
The Magnus girls - the defending sectional champs - were also playing to honor the memory of former girls basketball coach and longtime Athletic Director Joe McGuinness, who lost his battle with cancer last week.
Albertus Magnus will take on top seed Ursuline in the semifinals Thursday at the county center.
