Lakeland, Yorktown Baseball Teams Renew Rivalry In 35th Sorrentino Cup

YORKTOWN, N.Y. - The Yorktown High baseball team rolled out the welcome mat for the Hornets of Lakeland Saturday, as the two rivals battled in the 35th annual Sorrentino Cup game.

It was Yorktown that snapped a four-game losing streak and earned a 5-3 victory behind the winning pitching of Jim Sharkey.

Lakeland trailed 5-1 entering the seventh, when the Hornets pushed two runs across. But Yorktown's Matt Pupczyk came on in relief of Sharkey and got the final two outs, earning a save.Yorktown improved to 5-4 with the win.

Rich Vetrano took the loss for the Hornets, who fell to 6-4.
