Westchester Schools Rank Among State's Best

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Ten Westchester County schools were ranked in the top 40 for New York state, according to U.S. News & World Report.

Rye was the top-rated high school in Westchester, coming in 85th in the nation and 10th in the state. 

U.S. News & World Report enlisted the help of social science research firm RTI International to compile its rankings. They measured schools using four key metrics:

  • Math and reading proficiency for all students
  • Testing proficiency for disadvantaged students
  • Graduation rates
  • College readiness via Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate test data.

The top-rated school in the country was Mission San Jose High in Freemont, Calif. 

The eight other Westchester high schools to crack the top 40 were:

  • Edgemont (No. 20)
  • Yonkers High School (No. 26)
  • Horace Greeley (No. 27)
  • Pleasantville (No. 29)
  • Byram Hills (No. 30)
  • Rye Neck (No. 31)
  • Blind Brook (No. 32)
  • Hastings (No. 33)
  • Irvington (No. 35) 

Many other Westchester schools were ranked beyond the Top 40 in the state.
