Storyteller Jonathan Kruk Weaves Tales At Lindsey School

MONTROSE, N. Y. -- The youngest students at Frank G. Lindsey Elementary School in Montrose learned how stories can come to life when award-winning storyteller Jonathan Kruk paid a recent visit to the school.

Kruk made a special presentation to kindergartners and first-graders, telling them to "catch and toss a few stories into my magic hat."

Once his hat was on top of his head, Kruk was ready to share with the students. Among the tales he presented were "Big Fish, Little Pond," "Snowy Squirrel" and others.

The message from Aesop’s fable, "The Lion and the Mouse," that you are never too small to make a difference was particularly interesting to youngsters, school officials said. Kruk told the students that, unlike a movie or television show, a story shared by a storyteller is brand new every time you hear it.

Principal Donna Torrisi said the presentation coincided with the school's Career Day. She said a great career is one like Kruk's -- doing something you love and making people happy.

Torrisi thanked members of the Parents and Teachers Association for arranging the storytelling program.

“Our PTA is a wonderful support for our children,” she said.
