PEEKSKILL, N.Y. Parents of Assumption School children have until Friday at noon to apply for Peekskill City School District transportation for the coming school year.
Several dozen parents attended Tuesday's Board of Education meeting hoping for answers about why they were never informed of transportation registration dates. Board members opened the meeting by announcing the deadline would be extended due to an error in communication. Normally parents must apply for transportation by April 1.
"From what we've heard, the letters that we sent to Assumption were never sent out to parents, and so under the law we're able to hear your case and make an offer to extend that deadline," school board President Joe Urbanowicz told parents in attendance. "What we'll need is an application, but we also need a letter from you saying that you never got notice from the [Assumption] school."
Applications can be picked up at the district transportation office. The transportation office closes at noon on Friday because of summertime hours. For more information call the transportation office at 914-737-3300, ext. 322.
