Peekskill Middle School Students Share Thoughts On Environmental Issues

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- The students in Peekskill Middle School's Environmental Club see a range of issues that need to be fixed with the environment.

Issues range from cleaning up the Hudson River to preventing pollution to curbing global warming.

"I would like to restore the Hudson River to what it used to be," Mya Guardino said. "We need to be careful, we only have one world."

Mya Turner said with the Hudson River being in their backyard, they need to ensure that it is kept clean.

"This is where we live," Turner said. "Seeing all the garbage in the Hudson River makes me upset and makes me want to do something."

Kayani Alacantara said she is concerned about pollution.

"Whether it's air pollution, river pollution or land pollution, people really need to clean up," Alacantara said.

Alacantara's classmates said she is known for demanding someone pick up after themselves if they litter.

Nayeli Cardies said she is most concerned about global warming.

"Our world is changing," Cardies said. "I'm concerned about the simple stuff.
