PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Peekskill Middle School/LEAP Girls Rock and Living Legacy Awards Night was Thursday, March 26, in recognition of Black History and Women’s History months and celebrated PKMS girls and women in the Peekskill community who have made a difference through their contributions.
PKMS Girls Who Rock Awards were presented for the following categories: Service, Scholarship, Character and Trailblazer.

Ida Wigens (Trailblazer) PKMS Girls Who Rock Award Recipients: Kya Jackson (Service) Jordin Wright (Service) Hillary Aboagye-Sarpong (Service) Ashley Baez (Character) Kathryn Czerwinski (Character) Hope Diaz (Character) Layla Skaggs (Character) Tiana Brooks (Scholarship) Sarai Sales (Scholarship) Julia Roach (Scholarship) Karrington McIntosh (Scholarship) Sarah Rosen (Trailblazer) Zia Foxhall (Trailblazer) Theresa Calabrese (Trailblazer).
The evening’s ceremonies kicked off with a welcome from LEAP Director Naima Smith-Moore. Peekskill High School student Johnna Hayward acted as the event’s mistress of ceremonies and the keynote speaker for the evening was former Peekskill Board of Education member Tuesday McDonald.
Those that attended the awards ceremony were entertained by performances by PCSD Music Teacher Larry DelCasale who performed with members of the PKMS Chorus.
Middle school student Tiana Brooks read a poem, and the LEAP Steppers and Drama Class also added to the evening’s entertainment. Community Awards were presented in the categories of scholarship, service and business and arts and S.T.E.M.
