Peekskill High Getting New Entrance, Cafeteria

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – The city's high school is getting a new face this summer as one of the district's capital improvement projects.

The new entrance will have a cement patio area with benches and will sport a series of fabric flags. The new entrance is intended to make the main entrance of the school more defined, said Greg Sullivan, assistant superintendent for business.

Visitors to the school are often confused about where the main entrance is, since several doors at the front of the school look similar.

"That has been recognized by the district," Sullivan said.

The new entrance area will make the outside more welcoming to students, he added.

"The idea is that kids can come out of the cafeteria and sit outside when the weather is nice," Sullivan said.

The school's cafeteria and adjacent kitchen are also getting a face-lift this summer, and will have what district officials hope will be a more welcoming, food court atmosphere.

Funding for both projects come from a capital improvement bond approved by voters in 2011.
