O'Connor Promoted To Peekskill Assistant Superintendent

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – Maxine O’Connor was promoted to assistant superintendent for pupil personnel services of the Peekskill City School District.

O’Connor has been with the district since 2006 and has spent more than 35 years working in educational settings. She has held positions as a special education teacher, an elementary school principal and a college adjunct professor. Her former title was director of pupil personnel services.

O’Connor is responsible for organizing professional development programs for educational staff. She is also responsible for the strategic planning and data collection that go toward district policies to address program gaps within the district.

The veteran educator has worked to bring additional fiscal resources into the district and has been successful in receiving competitive grant funds in the amount of $1,295,000 for reading programs to help general and special education students.

O’Connor received numerous awards from organizations such as the NAACP and BABSE. She was also named Supervisor of the Year by the Council of School Administrators and received the Alumni of the Year Award from Medgar Evers College.

O’Connor has a B.S. from Medgar Evers College, an M.S. from Lehman College, a professional diploma for advanced study from the City University of New York, and is completing her doctorate at St. Johns University.
