Lakeland High School Screens Heroin Abuse Documentary

SHRUB OAK, N.Y. – A documentary about the effects of heroin abuse, along with a discussion with state Sen. Terrence Murphy, will be held at Lakeland High School on Wednesday.

“Chasing It” includes testimonies from a doctor and addiction expert, a man who lost a loved one to heroin abuse and six addicts in recovery.

Murphy, the co-chairman of the Joint New York State Senate Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction, will discuss the work of the committee as well as the issues surrounding heroin abuse.

Murphy, a Republican, represents the 40th District, which includes parts of Putnam, Westchester and Dutchess counties.

Representatives of the Cortlandt Community Coalition and the Alliance for Safe Kids will also be available to discuss signs of heroin abuse and possible treatment options.

A sState Senate grant is funding the evening, which is also supported by Cortlandt town officials and the Lakeland Central School District.

The event will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. in the school library.

Lakeland High School is at 1349 E. Main St., Shrub Oak.
