Lakeland Education Foundation Awards Grants

YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- The Lakeland Education Foundation presented a $46,696 check to the Board of Education at its April 18 board meeting in support of its 2015 grants to educators in Lakeland.

The foundation recently awarded 15 grants for a variety of educational projects districtwide. Created in 1994, the foundation has awarded more than $750,000 in grants to help enhance the educational experience of students in the district.

These are the 2015 grant recipients:

  • Second Steps Program from Andrea Cooper, Beth Luft, Katharine Rodefeld, Kristal Halton, and Carmen Diaz of George Washington, Lincoln-Titus, Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and Van Cortlandtville elementary schools.
  • Pingpong/Chess Club submitted by Keith Yi of Walter Panas High School.
  • The Write Right Program submitted by Jennifer Kalbfell and Tracy Norman of George Washington Elementary School.
  • The Sounds of Music submitted by Steven Calidonna of Lincoln Titus Elementary School.
  • The Outdoor Classroom Project submitted by Jacqueline Woodruff, Frank Yanoti, Jessica DiPietro, Baron Hersh and Kimberly Lachowicz of Van Cortlandtville Elementary School.
  • Midway Math Exhibits submitted by Elaine Alden of Benjamin Franklin Elementary School .
  • The Right Way to Write submitted by Amanda DiNapoli of Benjamin Franklin Elementary School.
  • The LASTT Project submitted by Lisa Butler and Lindsey McGann of Thomas Jefferson Elementary School.
  • Bucket Filling for the Brain submitted by Dr. Karen Gagliardi and Stacie Boylan of Thomas Jefferson Elementary School.
  • Orienteering & Geocaching Made Simple submitted by Jonathan Hourahan of Lakeland Copper Beech Middle School.
  • Life Skills Garden submitted by Karen Spano of Lakeland Copper Beech Middle School
  • Design Thinking with iPads for Special Education submitted by Cole Everett and Robert Bergmann of Lakeland Copper Beech Middle School
  • Beautification Benches submitted by Brian Smith, Bernadette Puff, and Kim Cardillo of Lakeland Copper Beech Middle School.
  • Hydroponics submitted by Steve Trinkle of Lakeland Copper Beech Middle School
  • Animation submitted by Matt Green of Lakeland Copper Beech Middle School.
