State Police announced that 28-year-old Careem Campbell and Ashley Mann, 24 are facing felony charges after being busted with illegal guns and more than four ounces of marijuana.
According to police, on Thursday, Jan. 5, troopers from the Brewster barracks stopped the two on I-84 after “failing to maintain its lane of travel.” When troopers approached the vehicle, they detected the odor of marijuana, prompting them to ask Campbell, the driver, to exit the vehicle.
The subsequent investigation determined that Campbell was in possession of two loaded handguns. Mann, who was his passenger, was also in possession of a loaded gun. Neither had a permit to carry the weapons in New York. Investigating troopers also found approximately 110 grams of marijuana in the Honda Civic.
Campbell and Mann were each charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Campbell was also charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana. Both were arraigned in Village of Brewster Justice Court.
Mann was remanded on $1,000 cash bail. Campbell was remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail. Both were scheduled to appear in the Town of Southeast Court on Tuesday.
